A Rust Trilogy
From Neil’s website.
“The third episode of A Rust Trilogy, which began with Rust Never Sleeps in 1978, and continued with Weld in 1990, now concludes with Alchemy in 2012. Things have changed, yet they stay the same. Alchemy, like Rust and Weld, finds the boys at another stage of life’s journey. Time has taken its toll, yet the spirit seems unstoppable.”
Interesting that there’s no mention of Year Of The Horse which incidentally is by far the worst of the NY&CH live albums. Always a bit of a dirge-fest for me. Rust Never Sleeps and Weld are classics however. I’ve still got the NME’s review of Weld somewhere where they gave it 10/10 and called it the best live rock album ever. I wouldn’t disagree with that. I can still remember the first time I blasted it out at home when I got in from work. Went to my bedroom, fired up my amplifier and Denon CD player and the first notes of Hey Hey, My My came blasting out. I was struck by two things. How much slower this version of HH,MM was and also Neil’s voice, it sounded a bit tired and worn. And yet, twenty-one years later and with some amazing new songs such as Walk Like A Giant, we’re embarking on another chapter in Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s fascinating story with a new tour and album. Here’s a couple of cool tour posters for ALCHEMY.
